[HanCinema's News] Drama Version of "She's My Type" Confirmed to Be in Development

Kakao Entertainment recently confirmed that the college romance webtoon "She's My Type" would soon be adapted into a television drama. While no names have yet been attached to the project, there is little reason to doubt the sincerity of Kakao's announcement. At a marketing event on July 6th an official representative for Kakao Entertainment again emphasized the web portal platform's commitment to synergy and cross-marketing.

Kakao Entertainment has seen big hits with drama adaptations of its intellectual properties in recent years, with "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim" being the first noteworthy big hit. That office romance drama was followed up by "Itaewon Class" and "Business Proposal" which were both big international hits on Netflix. These dramas have been especially popular in Southeast Asian countries, and the webtoons on which they're based have seen similarly big popularity boosts.

"She's My Type" has likewise shown strong popularity in these regions. The webtoon, which started in 2018, deals with a tomboy who tries to shed this image as she goes to university but is forced to make a deal with a neighbor in order to achieve her goals. In its three years of serialization on Kakao, "She's My Type" was the number one webtoon on the platform both in the romance genre as well as overall during its three year run. It's accumulated over 340 million views worldwide.

The webtoon version of "She's My Type" is not currently officially available in English, though this will likely change in the near future. Other upcoming projects based on Kakao Entertainment properties include "Shark: The Storm" as well as a remake of "Itaewon Class" for Japan. Purportedly a variety show based on "Love Alarm" is also in the works. It is not yet known when or where the drama version of "She's My Type" will be available for public consumption.
