[HanCinema's Drama Review] "The Girl Who Sees Smells" Episode 15

And so Jae-hee is down for the count...or is he? Normally I make a point of how proper set-up is important for effective delivery. Here's the problem with this episode's cliffhanger though. The fact that it was obviously foreshadowed only served to make me dread the end of this episode, as well as the next one, because it means that once more "The Girl Who Sees Smells" is going to insist on doing its stupid invincible serial killer shtick right to the end, when Jae-hee is once again foiled less because his opponents are competent and more because the writer turns off Jae-hee's omniscience superpower.

Why is this necessary? I might have enjoyed the epilogue except that the foreshadowing, coupled with the fact that there's still one episode remaining, made it very obvious that of course we can't end on a happy note. In all fairness "The Girl Who Sees Smells" seems to have made such a point of trying my patience I can't help but feel like this is personal. Why else interrupt all this serial killer nonsense with actual funny romantic comedy stuff?

Park Yoo-chun and Shin Se-kyung are actually fairly passable comedians, and they have decent enough chemistry to boot. Even though the entire extended sequence about the proposal was stupidly predictable, it was stupidly predictable in a funny way. Oh that crazy Moo-gak, completely incapable of foreseeing the obvious problems with his plans. Now Jae-hee, he'd have organized it so that a car crash, an earthquake, and a paid off construction crew accidentally join forces turn a rock into a diamond right in front of Cho-rim's eyes before Jae-hee actually knew he wanted to propose in the first place.

Even though most of this episode doesn't even really deal with Jae-hee at all my mind constantly turns back to him because he is literally the entire embodiment of the story. I was actually a little surprised the marriage proposal plotline came up at all. Jae-hee has been so central to everything I can barely even remember the last time Moo-gak and Cho-rim went out on something resembling a date.

Fortunately at this point "The Girl Who Sees Smells" has used up all of my irritation. Mostly it's just a matter that this drama will be done after one more episode, and after that I won't have to put any more thought into figuring out how writer Lee Hee-myeong thinks. This is the worst kind of mystery- one that arbitrarily excludes most possible answers. I mean seriously- doesn't anyone in this universe use validated parking?
