[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Let's Eat - Season 2" Episode 11

This episode opens up with an extended mountain hike- that naturally ends with food porn. I'm surprised "Let's Eat - Season 2" doesn't do this more often really. Just have a completely random datelike activity end in food porn because that's what the viewers wants. But then again, Soo-ji never really pays attention to food because she's too head-over-heels with Sang-woo to actually notice her first love in life. With Dae-yeong, though, food and petty arguments is what they're all about.

We definitely appear to be moving into standard romantic-comedy territory here. After the first season of "Let's Eat", and indeed, Dae-yeong's generally chaste attitude throughout the first half of the second season, it's somewhat unbelievable that Dae-yeong of all people could consider doing something as generally pervy as kissing someone while she's asleep. This does not line up with what we know about him- nor does it fit in well with Dae-yeong's own self-understanding, hence leading to his emotional conflict.

Elsewhere, the secondary coupling between the younger cast members...mostly goes the same as usual. Actually, I'm much more curious as to what's going on with the older tertiary couple. The one made up of the older co-workers. Yes, apparently they're a couple now. And the idea is so utterly bizarre that I kind of want more exposition and explanation of how we got to that point. That weird scene in the bedroom only whets my interest. Which is admittedly part of the point.

There's plenty of depth elsewhere, too. A scene that initially just seems like a random celebrity cameo quickly and rather unexpectedly ends up turning into a commentary on Soo-ji's character. She has to face the question of whether or not her lifelong attitude up to this point has really been a particularly mature one. The character development all around is subtle and effective- with the obvious exception of Sang-woo, who's exposed by the cliffhanger as being somewhat spiteful.

The conflict in "Let's Eat - Season 2" is quickly reaching a fever pitch, leaving me quite excited as to where the drama's planning to go next. The characters are all well-drawn enough as people, and the action has been plausible enough that I have absolute faith in the creative team at this point. They were able to pull "Let's Eat" through convincingly all the way to the end, and it looks like a similar feat is about to be accomplished. It's hard to believe there's still several episodes of story go through- hard to believe in a good way, just to be clear.
