[HanCinema's Drama Review] "God's Gift - 14 Days" Episode 4

Can we change our fate? Do our choices really have an impact on our futures? Soo-hyeon and Dong-chang in "God's Gift - 14 Days" are forced to face these questions as they battle the clock to save their loved ones. Thus far, the results have been the same despite their greatest efforts to change them.

The end of this episode may hold a change, or it could be a false lead, which is more likely. What is striking is how Soo-hyeon was a cool and level-headed woman in the first episode and is now so hysterical that most of her choices are foolish and born of desperation. She is terrified for her child, but if she remains this impulsive throughout the show, it will be chaos trying to logically keep her alive, much less her child. I'm hoping that these two weeks temper her so we get some really good battles between her and Dong-chan, and the murderer.

Another issue is that she and her husband have horrible communication. It's something I definitely want to see worked on. They definitely care for each other, but there is a lack of trust and patience. I find it strange that he lets her run around " saving " their child when he doesn't believe her. It makes me wonder why he isn't more active in keeping an eye on her or stopping what he thinks is foolishness.

Also, she is running around doing incredibly dangerous things and neither her husband nor her job (a news station) has heard about them. It's implausible that she shows up at murder scenes and receives no recognition for it save from the murderer. These plot holes keep me from fully immersing myself in the show. It seems like the show had an agenda to keep and wanted to achieve a certain end quickly. I just hope all the lose ends are picked up afterwards.

Dong-chan is better developed already, mostly because the desperation hasn't hit him. He's reacting to everything that Soo-hyeon does. His changes are more gradual and fit well within the storyline and the series of events that have unfolded thus far. The drama is taking time to have him interact with people and show how it's difficult for Dong-chan to change when he's so bitter and wounded. The only person he's open with is little Saet-byeol, which will probably be what inspires him most to keep working; she and his innocent nephew Yeong-gyoo.

The filming this episode was dark and made the action difficult to see. It is a trouble of shooting night scenes in the rain, but nonetheless, it was unclear and made the beginning of the episode more difficult to follow.

While "God's Gift - 14 Days" is still exciting and fast paced, this episode felt very rushed, as though it was trying to meet a deadline so the rest of the story could unfold. There needs to be a balance between the excitement level and adequately developing Soo-hyeon and the mystery of the fourteen days.
