To recognise the 70th anniversary of South Korea's liberation from Japan, the government has decided that 14 August will be public holiday and will see that various state-run museums and other cultural places are open for citizens to mark the occasion.

"Two South Koreans Cycle Across USA for 'Comfort Women' Awareness"

Baek Deokyeol and Sim Yong-seok cycled from New York To Los Angeles to raise awareness for the "comfort woman" from South Korea's time under Japanese rule. The trip was 3,300 miles long, and seems particularly relevant given the country is now celebrating seventy years since it gain liberation from Japan.
