The "Captain" remains on course...

The weather may be heating up but Marvel's "Winter Soldier" still managed to stick it out for yet another week at the top of the pile. The comic captain added another 242,939 admissions (24.2%) over this past weekend to bump its bottom line to $28.6M (3.7M admissions), securing its place as the fourth highest grossing film of the year. The "Captain", however, had some stiff competition this time around as Neil Burger's sci-fi action film "Divergent" snatched a virtuous 212K (21.1%) during its first weekend out. Overall, foot traffic has been soft this year, and the Korean representatives have struggled to find/maintain traction in the top ten.

Last week's number two, "Broken" by Lee Jeong-ho, fell one place with its 189K (19.2%); a modest haul that helped the thriller reach 800K in week two. Easter may have just passed but "Son of God" stood still in fourth where it added another 68K (6.2%), a decent position but one it held only just as the mechanical madness of "Need for Speed" slipstreamed behind it with 60K (6.1%). "Need for Speed" is based on the series of video games from Electronic Arts, a popular street racing title that scored "Breaking Bad" actor Aaron Paul as its cinematic lead. This adrenalised action flick has already grossed over $186M worldwide, but only just arrived in Korea last week.

In sixth place was the coming-of-age story "Han Gong-ju" by Lee Su-jin, a critically acclaimed feature that premiered at the 2013 Busan International Film Festival and has since been praised in Marrakech, Rotterdam, and the Deauville Asian Film Festival. Lee's impressive debut brought in 47K (4.7%) over 225 screens and was followed in seventh by Wes Anderson's highest grossing film: "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (43K – 3.6%).

Arie Posin's romantic comedy "The Face of Love" entered in eighth, attracting 28K (2.7%) to its cause, while the French animation "Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants" by writers-directors Thomas Szabo and Helen Giraud occupied ninth with 27K (2.4%). Lastly, the action fantasy flick "The Legend of Hercules" took a serious tumble from third to an infinitely less divine tenth with just 18K (2.4%). "The Legend of Hercules" claimed over 130K last weekend, a finite flash of glory that proved unsustainable in week two.
