A press release from SM announced that the girls' debut single "Genie", which went on sale on September 8, has topped Japan's iTunes music video charts and placed at No. 1 on several music charts including music.jp and on mobile music sites recochoku's ringtones chart and music video clip chart.

The girls made their debut into the Japanese pop scene in August, holding their local showcase on August 25 and scoring the title as the first Korean girl group to have ranked in the top 5 slots of the prestigious Oricon weekly DVD chart with their DVD "'少女時代到 ~日記念盤~New Beginning of Girls' Generation".

They also took the No. 5 spot against popular Japanese singers such as Arashi and GLAY on Oricon's daily singles chart with "Genie" earlier this week.

The nine-member girl group will be promoting "Genie" in Japan by making an appearance on Fuji TV's weekday morning news program "Tokudane!" today.

Girls' Generation made their debut in Korea with their self-titled album in 2007. They have performed in several countries in Asia such as China, Shanghai and Thailand for the "1st ASIA TOUR - Into the New World" last year.

The girl group recently completed the second stop of the "SMTOWN LIVE '10 WORLD TOUR" in Los Angeles and will be in Shanghai with their fellow labelmates for their third show on September 11.
