Filmmaker Im to get achievement award

Filmmaker Im Kwon-taek will receive an achievement award from the Korea Evergreen Association, a civic organization devoted to promoting social welfare and volunteering.
The renowned movie director will be given the "Human Evergreen Award", alongside several other recipients from business and academia, during a ceremony in Seoul on Aug. 7 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
Founded in 1986, the award is given to senior professionals with distinguished achievements in various fields.
The 75-year-old is one of the nation's most respected film directors.
His works have won many awards at home and abroad, while producing many box-office successes and raising the global profile of the Korean film industry.
Some of his major works have explored themes from Korea's history as well as cultural identity in modern times, as in the cases of "Seopyeonje" (1993) and "Chunhyang" (2000), both centered on the traditional Korean music of "pansori".
Im's directorial debut was with the 1962 "Farewell Duman River". In April 2007, he released his 100th film "Beyond the Years", an informal sequel to "Seopyeonje".
