[HanCinema's News] "Handsome Guys" Confirmed for International Distribution

"Handsome Guys" had a weak opening at the South Korean box office on June 26th, with only 66,957 admissions on its opening day, only a third of what Inside Out 2 made on the same day entering its third week. But this fourth place appearance is deceiving. The shamanistic comedy has already been sold to a large number of territories throughout Asia, and already has confirmed distributors in several of these regions.

To be specific, rights have been sold to Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Mongolia, New Zealand, the Phillipines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. The wide distribution of film rights is somewhat surprising, given the movie's low local profile. However, "Handsome Guys" appeared in competition at the Sitges Film Festival in Catalonia last year, and quickly gained interest in film markets thereafter thanks to the strong response.

CGV Indonesia cited the rise in South Korean films in general behind its decision to obtain local distribution rights. Moviecloud in Taiwan had a positive appraisal of the film's romantic horror concept. Westec Media in Cambodia considered the comedy elements a major strength. Rightscube in Japan noted that Lee Sung-min and Lee Hee-jun are charismatic leads behind its own marketing approach. Consequently, international fans of South Korean film can likely expect to see the movie soon.
