Mrs. Hong is the godmother of a big gang, and she wants to have an intelligent daughter-in-law to make her gang prosper. In this, his 97th movie, he reinterprets a traditional "pansori" (narrative singing) tale about a young woman's faith in her true love. Set in the 18th century, the film revolves around Chunhyang who waits for her lover Mongryong, who has gone to Seoul to take an examination to become a high-ranking government official.
