The number of tickets sold this year surpassed the mark Friday, some 47 days earlier than last year, when it took until Nov. 20 to achieve the feat.

A number of commercially appealing movies helped accelerate ticket sales, such as "Miracle in Cell No.7", which attracted 12.81 million spectators, "Snowpiercer" (9.33 million), "The Face Reader" (8.49 million), and "The Berlin File" (7.17 million).

As of Saturday, only two foreign flicks have made it onto the list of the 10 most popular films in Korea this year -- "Iron Man 3" (No. 3) and "World War Z" (No. 10).
