According to sources, director Hong Sang-soo applied for divorce on the 9th of November but it fell through on the 16th.

Settling for divorce is a process where a married couple gets divorced under mutual agreement without official trial. If both sides come to an agreement, it has the same effect of final judgment but if they don't agree, the divorce goes through trial. Hong Sang-soo got married in 1985 and has one daughter. The marriage lasted 31 years.

Hong Sang-soo suggested a divorce by settlement but was denied. His wife Jo was resolute that she wouldn't settle for divorce and they didn't agree on anything.

Now the two are going down the long, difficult path of a divorce trial. According to the law, the blameful spouse can't file for divorce. Therefore, proving that his wife is the reason this marriage has come to an end will be the crucial point.

Hong Sang-soo was surrounded by an affair with actress Kim Min-hee who starred in his movie "Right Now, Wrong Then". Apparently, he left the house after he told his wife and daughter about Kim Min-hee. The actress also hasn't been showing up in public places.

Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee have two movies ahead of them. One of them is "Alone On The Beach At Night" and another is a movie taken with French actress Isabelle Huppert.
