K-pop singer-turned-actress Choi Soo-young is set to lure moviegoers with a melodrama due to be released next month.

The film, "Memories of a Dead End", a Korean-Japanese co-production, is based on the Japanese novel of the same title by Banana Yoshimoto.

After having appeared in several TV dramas, it is Choi Soo-young's cinematic debut in which she shows off her fluent Japanese skills.

"I was able to learn Japanese because I made my Japanese [singing] debut when I was 12 before being a member of Girls' Generation in Korea. I'd always wondered if I would get a chance to act in a Japanese film someday", she said at a press preview of the film in Seoul on Monday.

"But I play a Korean tourist who travels to Japan [in the film], so I didn't feel much pressure about acting in Japanese".

It is scheduled to hit local theaters on April 4.
