Children's Day Promises Plenty of Cultural Fun

Plenty of cultural events are being laid on for this year's Children's Day on May 5.

The KBS Symphony Orchestra will put on an event titled "Flying Symphony" at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul at 7 p.m. on Friday, playing eight stalwarts of the kids' repertoire like Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals" and Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker". Separate concerts dedicated to children will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the same venue on Sunday.

Galleries and museums will also host various events for children. The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art holds relay drawing events on Saturday and Sunday, where visitors and artist Hong Kyoung-tack complete a big picture together.

Seoul's four major palaces and royal tombs will offer free admissions to families on Sunday, and will be open on the make-up holiday next Monday as well though they are normally closed on Monday.

The National Museum of Korea will host outdoor events for families on Sunday, and the National Palace Museum of Korea will hold a concert along with an exhibition of royal court culture at Gyeongbok Palace.
