All Soldiers to Wear Korean Flag on Uniforms

All soldiers on duty will wear uniforms featuring the Korean flag to boost patriotism, the government said Thursday.

A Defense Ministry official said the aim is to "remind soldiers of their love for their home country and instill pride in military service".

The little flags are attached by Velcro strips and will cost W6 billion (US$1=W1,056). Soldiers will sport them in the second half of this year.

The ministry official said there are plans to let parents ceremonially attach the flags to the chests of newly-conscripted soldiers. Currently only a handful of Marine divisions and overseas squads wear the flag on their uniforms.

A military source said the flags copy U.S. practice.
