Veteran actress Yoon Jung-hee will return to the silver screen for the first time in 15 years, appearing last in the 1994 film "Manmubang".

The 65-year-old actress, and wife of renowned pianist Paik Kun-woo, will star in the new film "Poetry" (working title) directed by Lee Chang-dong.

In the film, Yoon will play the role of Mija, a woman in her mid-60s, who works as a maid by day and writes poetry at night, while raising her grandson alone on the government's scanty supplementary living allowance.

The film is the newest work by the award-winning director following "Secret Sunshine" in 2007.

The actress began shooting the film on Aug. 25 and will continue for three months in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces.

Yoon, who lives in France, is known to have decided to appear in the film after being suggested for the role by Lee at last year's Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival.

She won the Best Actress award at the Daejong (Grand Bell) Film Awards for the 1994 film "Manmubang", directed by Um Jong-seon, which portrays the tragedy of the Korean War (1950-53).

Since then, she has been active as a juror at various film festivals, including the Puchon (Bucheon) International Fantastic Film Festival.

Yoon rose to stardom in 1967 with her debut film "Sorrowful Youth", which drew 270,000 viewers in Seoul alone. She is considered one of the "big three" actresses along with Moon Hee and Nam Jung-im from the 1960s.

She has starred in a number of hit films such as "Mist" (1967), "Longing in Every Heart" (1967), "An Old Potter" (1969) and "A Shaman's Story" (1972).
