Actress to aid in famine relief

Actress Kim Hyo-jin is flying to Sudan on May 8 to take part in famine relief work organized by World Vision, an international Christian humanitarian relief and development organization.

She will stay in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, until May 15.

The 22-year-old actress, making her first trip overseas with the humanitarian agency, was first advised to go to Mongolia, a relatively safer country. However, she insisted on going to Sudan to help the malnourished children affected by 21 years of civil war between the government of Khartoum and the southern-based opposition movements which have killed more than two million people and displaced a further four million.

Nam Kyung-su, the actress' agent, said, "Kim Hyo-jin is looking forward to helping out with the work in Sudan. She already bought over 100 T-shirts for children in Sudan and wishes to get involved in relief work on a continuous basis".

The actress' relief action in Sudan will be aired on an SBS program "24-Hour Famine" June 5-6, as part of events supporting Youth Activist Festival of World Vision.
