I had read about the brilliant strategy by General Douglas MacArthur to recapture Seoul from the Russian enforced North Korean army. My father's best friend was killed in Seoul on September 24, 1950, shortly before Seoul was successfully recaptured from the North Koreans. On, February of 1951, during a battle in Northern Korea my dad was wounded by shrapnel and taken to a MASH unit. Dad had sent his best friend a letter telling him to stay strong, he was coming to help. Dad learned about Jimmie's death while in transport, both were 19.
The movie depicts one of the diversionary tactics used to draw suspension away from Inchon and the battle of Jansari. A mission that many felt would fail. General MacArthur felt differently and he was right, down to the height of the tides. The soldiers sent to Jansari were students with little combat training and a lot of passion to keep their country free, but get your tissues ready. Most surprising was the chemistry between Choi Min-ho and and Kim Seong-Cheot. Minho is a superstar of 2nd generation K-pop group and member of SHINee. Minho also recently finished his two years military service. Kim Seong-Cheot is also a well known South Korean star and brilliant actor. Minho gave such an amazing performance though, he is a true all rounder.
Highly recommend this movie.
