The 3rd Green Film Festival in Seoul (GFFIS), the annual non-competitive film festival, was launched on May 5, 2006 with grand opening in Yonsei University's Centennial Hall.

About 1,000 film-related people and other guests from nearly all walks of life joined the opening ceremony of GFFIS, which was officiated by Mr. Sohn Beom-Soo, a local MBC TV announcer, and Miss. Park Jin-Hee, a local film star. Park serves as PR ambassador for GFFIS.

During the opening ceremony Mr. Choi Yul, GFFIS festival director, delivered a speech on the subject of nature and environment.

Three short local films — "Nobody Knows", "A Puppy, Our Family", and "lt's a Beautiful Day" were shown to the guests under the title of "09:05, An Omnibus Film of Three Shorts" during the ceremony. These films, all related to environment issues, were made by GFFIS for the festival.

Among the VIP foreign guests were three Japanese film directors — Negishi Kichitaro, director of "What the Snow Brings", winner of grand prize in 2005 Tokyo International Film Festival; Mervi Junkkonen, director of "About a Farm", and Sugimoto Nobuaki, director of "Ride Forward on Your Bicycle".

The GFFIS festival runs from May 4 until May 10, 2006. During the seven-day festival period a total of 108 films from 28 countries will be shown at three theaters in Seoul — "Starsix Jeong-dong 5, 6", "Ewha Girls' High School Centennial Hall", and the Seoul Museum of History", all downtown Seoul. Among the films were 32 Korean films.
