'Yonsama' Stamps to Debut May 15

SEOUL (Yonhap) - Postage stamps featuring Bae Yong-joon, a South Korean actor who has become a heartthrob for many Japanese women, will be marketed in Japan starting from May 15, according to Bae's agency on Tuesday.

Officials at the agency IMX said that 30,000 sets of stamps with an image of the bespectacled Bae will be for sale. A set is priced at 4,935 yen, or 50,000 won ($50).

Advance orders can be made via the Internet from May 15 and at post offices from early June, they added.

For promotion, IMX plans to release 10,000 sets of stamps first at an event, "BYJ Meets Asia", to be held in Yokohama, Japan from May 3 to 12, to mark the first anniversary of Bae's visit to Japan.

At that time, the 33-year-old was greeted by thousands of Japanese girls and middle-aged women fans who packed a Tokyo airport.

Bae gained growing popularity in Japan following his starring role in the South Korean TV romantic drama series "Winter Sonata", which was broadcast several times in Japan.

Thousands of Japanese fans have traveled to South Korea to visit some of the locations where the drama was filmed.
