'The King and the Clown' Breaks 10 Mln-Viewer-mark on Saturday

More than 10 million moviegoers have seen "The King and the Clown", since it hit the silver screen two months ago.
That means nearly 1 out of every 5 Koreans has seen this movie.
But as our Kim Hyung-eun tells us the movie is different from past blockbusters.

It's a low-budget movie with no A-list celebrities and with a strong undercurrent of homosexuality
But "The King and the Clown" has become the third-most popular domestic film in history, drawing more than 10 million people as of Saturday, less than two months since its premiere.
And just what's behind this success?
Film experts credit moviegoers' recommendations, either online or in person.

RECORDED: "This film didn't attract viewers through huge marketing. Rather, those who watched it really liked its well-constructed storyline, and word just spread".

The success of the film is even more of a surprise, considering its story, which features a delicately-effeminate male clown caught between the affections of a despotic king and the love of a fellow performer.
Now the question is: Will "The King and the Clown" be able to join the 11-million-viewer club?
Only two domestic films, "Taegukgi: the Brotherhood of War" and "Silmido" have achieved such a feat.
But even if "The King and the Clown" doesn't make it to this milestone, already it has made a clear statement: that a strong plot line alone can go a long way.
