'Sympathy' to Compete at Venice Film Fest

Director Park Chan-wook's bloody thriller "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" is the country's lone competitive entrant to the Venice Film Festival that opens Wednesday.

Park is vying for another major film award since his cult hit "Oldboy" won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes last year.

"Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" completes Park's revenge trilogy that began with "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" in 2002. The movie is about a woman's complex plan to get revenge on the man who duped her into going to prison for 13 years for his crime.

The director is also known for "JSA - Joint Security Area", a 2000 film about a tragic friendship between South and North Korean guards along the Demilitarized Zone.
