'Snowpiercer' to Be Made Into U.S. TV Series

Bong Joon-ho's hit sci-fi movie "Snowpiercer" is to be spun off into a TV series in the U.S.

The Hollywood Reporter reported Wednesday that the film is being adapted by Josh Friedman for Tomorrow Studios, which has optioned the rights.

"I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity", Friedman said. "I'm a huge fan of director Bong's films, especially 'Snowpiercer.' It's great the way the best sci-fi is great --thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it's on a train... What more could you want?"

Based on the French graphic novel "Le Transperceneige", the film revolves around the last surviving humans who circle the globe in a giant train during a new Ice Age.

The film "grossed $4.5 million domestically en route to a $86.8 million worldwide cume after being released on video on demand after only two weeks in release", the magazine said. It drew 9.35 million viewers here.

Bong and fellow star director Park Chan-wook will have a role in producing the TV series.
