'April Snow' Seen by 1 Mil. Viewers in Japan

Local actor Bae Yong-joon's film "April Snow" reached the one-million-viewer mark in Japan on Wednesday, just 12 days after its official release.

Thanks to the huge popularity of Bae, who is affectionately called "Yonsama" among Japanese fans, the melodrama reached the mark in the shortest time ever among Korean films released in Japan.

The Korean films that attracted more than 1 million moviegoers in Japan are "Shiri" in 2000 and "Windstruck" in 2004.

The melodrama has been shown since Sept. 17 at 400 screens throughout Japan, and although it is expected to become the most successful Korean film in Japan, it is not likely to be the most successful foreign film due to Zhang Yimou's "Hero," Japanese news media forecast.
